Frequently Asked Questions About Partial Dentures

1. How Do Partial Dentures Stay In Place?

Partial dentures are designed to have clasps that wrap around your existing natural teeth.

2. Are Metal (Chrome) Dentures Better Than Acrylic Dentures?

Yes, generally speaking, we think so.

Where possible we recommend chrome partial dentures for our patients. They are slightly more expensive, but the strength, flexibility, comfort & precise fit of the denture is superior to acrylic (plastic) dentures.

The metal palate can be much thinner, lighter, and feel a lot better in the mouth.

Because metal is stronger than acrylic/plastic, the metal partial dentures can have less surface area and therefore feel smaller, fit really well, and are much stronger.

Acrylic dentures generally are a bit thicker and larger and not quite as strong as metal partial dentures.

3. What Are The Best Partial Dentures To Get?

We think that metal dentures are the best because they are thinner and stronger.

Having said that, we make a lot of very high-quality acrylic partial dentures, it just depends on each person’s individual teeth, mouth, financial circumstances, and preferences.

Our job is to find the right denture option that suits you.

4. I Hate Metal In My Mouth, What Are The Best Alternatives To Metal Partial Dentures?

We get it. Some people prefer to have a denture that is metal-free. You always have a choice and we can make you a denture that has no metal in it.

Metal alternatives are Peek, Pekk, and Nylon.

5. Do You Make Partial Dentures For Front Teeth?

Yes, absolutely!

We make these types of partial dentures all the time. We know that accidents happen, like an old footy knock to the teeth, a horse kick, a car accident, and all sorts of reasons why you might have lost or are about to lose your front teeth. We see people of all sorts of ages, young and old, come in and ask for a partial denture. It’s more common than you realise.

We make excellent dentures that fit really well and look super natural. We buy the best false teeth that we can find from all over the world. We hear all the time how surprised our patients are at how amazingly natural our dentures look!

6. Can You Get Partial Dentures For One Tooth?

Yes! We make one tooth partials for a lot of our dental patients. No one likes missing a tooth or feeling self-conscious about their smile.

7. How Many Teeth Do You Need For A Partial Denture?

One. You only need 1 natural tooth remaining and we can make you a partial denture.

It’s important that you get advice for your unique situation, so speak to a dental prosthetist or denturist.

8. What Are Partial Dentures Made From?

They can be manufactured with many different materials like acrylic, nylon, medical-grade cobalt chrome metal alloy, and titanium. They are either manufactured by hand or with modern CAD/CAM machines.

Some materials cost more than others, for example, an acrylic partial denture will be cheaper than a metal denture. The denture acrylic is much cheaper in cost.

9. What Is Cobalt-Chrome?

Cobalt-chrome is the metal alloy we use to make our metal partial dentures. This medical-grade metal alloy is used widely across the world and is well known for its biocompatibility.

10. How Long Do Chrome Dentures Last?

Chrome dentures can last for many years. It’s not uncommon for a patient to have a chrome denture over 50 years old. Sometimes when the teeth wear out, we can replace the denture teeth and use the metal frame again.

They are strong, durable, and can be added to. Like many things in life, if you look after your dentures and your natural teeth, you can expect to have your Chrome denture for a long time. It’s important to have your natural teeth checked by a dentist and your dentures checked and relined regularly.

11. Will My Partial Denture Have Metal Clasps?

Yes, metal dentures could have metal clasps. We always try to make the design as natural as possible and when we can, we hide the clasps.

Ask us about our flexible denture options, with may avoid metal clasps altogether.
